Washington is in the far Northwest of the lower 48 states in the US. It's northern border lies along the Canadian province of British Columbia. Washington borders Oregon to the south, with the Columbia River forming most of the boundary. To the east Washington borders Idaho. To the west of Washington lies the Pacific Ocean.

In 2008, the census bureau estimated the state's population at 6,587,600. The largest city is Seattle.
